GENESIS CHAPTER 2
CHAPTER 2 OF GENESIS
-Thus the heavens and the earth and all their host were finished.
-Having the seventh day God ended his work which he had rested from all his work which he had made.
-And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
-These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created. On the day that the Lord God the earth and the heavens,
-there was no plant of the field on earth, no herb of the field had sprouted, for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and also there was no man to till the soil.
-A vapor, however, went up the earth, and watered the whole surface of the ground.
-The Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.
-Now the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom He had formed.
And the Lord God made the earth bring forth every kind of tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food, and the tree of life in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
-He left a river in Eden to water the garden; thence it was parted, and became into four heads.
-The name of the first is Pison: that is it which surrounds the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold.
The gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.
-The name of the second river is Gihon: this is what surrounds the whole land of Cush.
-The name of the third river is Tigris: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth is the Euphrates.
-The Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.
-the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat
- But of the tree of knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat, you shall surely die.
-the Lord God said: It is not good that man should be alone. Far-him an help meet for him matches.
-Seeing then the Lord God formed every beast of the earth field and every fowl of the air, brought them to the man to see what he would call them: and whatsoever the man called every living creature, that was his name.
-So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of heaven and all beasts of the field. But for Adam there was not found an help meet corresponding to him.
-So God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept; then took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place
-Then the rib, which God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her to the man.
-The man said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because the man was taken.
Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
-And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
